Yesterday the middle distance JEC2008 took place on a technical map in Arlon (Belgium). The results and map are visible below. France dominated the competition and won 3 golden medals. Today the participants will run the long distance race.

Public Race: 4600m
The men public race was the same course than H20 Jec-runners. This race (which is a Belgian ranking event) was won by Thomas van der Kleij (36'07). He was a little bit faster than his brother Dries van der Kleij (36'16) and Jean-Baptiste Colomb (36'21).
The women public race was the same race than the men public race (and H20 JEC). It was won by Veronique Bastin (45'53). Aline Hermans became 2nd (46'57) and Hilde Vercaeren 3th (66'56).

JEC Belgium

The Junior European Cup is an orienteering competition open to national teams of competitors not older than 20 years. In 2008 it will takes place in the south of Belgium: Arlon. 12 nations have now registered for JEC2008: Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Russia, Spain and Switzerland. In total 108 athletes (68 boys and 40 girls) will be present at the startline. The maps are in the same area than the Belgian 3days 2008. By following the weblinks, you can see the maps from day1, day2 and day3 (all of them H21elite) and the final results.

Belgian Team

The belgian team consists of 11 athletes (4 girls and 7 boys). More detailed: 3 girls in D18 (Elisabeth Henkes, Sien Verdeyen, Margot Vandemeulebroeck) and 1 girl in D20 (Katharina Henkes). 4 boys in H18 (Jeremy Genar, Wouter Leeuws, Yannick Michiels, Benjamin Hofmans) and 3 boys in H20 (Gilles Deneyer, Quentin Deneyer, Corentin Tonneau). Miek Fabre was also a member of the selected team, but she's doing exams at university at the moment. And Jochen Verdeyen can't participate because he's recovering from a medical surgery.

Public Races:

During the JEC also some public races will be organised. On saturday a middle distance competition on the map 'La rouge eau' (in Chantemelle) and on sunday a long distance race on the map Lagland (in Chatillon). Both competitions are Belgian ranking events. The deadline for registering the middle distance was 24/08, but there are still some vacants places. Sunday it's on-the-day entry, so registering is not necessary.

Nu de olympische spelen bezig (of bijna afgelopen) zijn, komen er allemaal lijstjes op u af. De oriëntatiewereld kan natuurlijk niet achterblijven en dus kan je nu het antwoord vinden op de vraag wie dit jaar de meeste wedstrijden liep in Vlaanderen (Tuur Cloostermans), wie de meeste tijd aan zijn wedstrijden spendeerde (Oswald Van Bockstal) en wie er gemiddeld het snelste liep (Bart Delobel)!

Volg de link hierboven. Heb voldoende geduld. Een 1,2 MB aan resultaten komt binnen. Als het ingeladen is, kan je op een naam klikken (nogal willekeurig) en zien welke wedstrijden die persoon liep. De tijden zijn in seconden, onze excuses hiervoor. Helemaal bovenaan kan je kiezen om te sorteren op het aantal gelopen wedstrijden, de totale tijd en de gemiddelde kilometertijd.

De resultaten zijn berekend op alle wedstrijden van 2008, zoals voorkomend in de VVO resultatenlijst. Wij garanderen niet dat alles er correct in voorkomt, maar het zou redelijk goed moeten zijn. Foute resultaten mag je altijd melden.

van der Kleij wins overall ranking

 

Thomas van der Kleij (hamok) won the overall ranking of the Flanders 3 days 2008. By finishing second today, 6 seconds behind on winner Tomas Hendrickx (KOL), the "Kattenbosser Kogel" secured his victory ahead of Serge Fedatsenka (AMOR), by more than 4 minutes. Yesterday's lead Jeroen Hoekx (hamok) lost a considerable amount of time, but still held the third place, although almost 9 minutes behind on van der Kleij.

Today's race on Houterenberg was well traced and the tough runnability in some parts of the forest made it a challenging race. Next year's Belgian Championship Long distance will probably be held in the area.

As we mentioned yesterday, the lead in the women's class, Sofie Herremans (hamok), did not start today. We also said that Greet Oeyen (hamok), the number two, was unsure, but she finally did run today. She finished in second place, just about one minute slower than Severine Vandermeulen (CO Liège), but still had 3 minutes left to take the overall victory. The third place in the overall ranking was won by Ewa Fiuk, but 30 minutes behind.

Sillien wins day 2

 

Nicolas Sillien (CO Pégase), winner of the first two national events this year, won the second day of the Flanders 3 days. On the map Rodenberg in Tessenderlo, despite a few mistakes, he was still 1:28 faster than Belarusian Serge Fedatsenka (Amor). In third place, we see Thomas van der Kleij (hamok), 3 minutes behind.

Today's long distance race (11,3km) saw several fast long legs, where choosing the right path was very important. The forest was quite green most of the time, leading to an interesting trade-off between distance and strength.

In the overall standings, Jeroen Hoekx (hamok) is still in the lead, just half a minute in front of van der Kleij, with Fedatsenka in third place. This means that tomorrow's race on Houterenberg will decide the competition.

Sofie Herremans (hamok) won the women's class. She was 30 seconds faster than Severine Vandermeulen (CO Liège), with yesterday's winner Greet Oeyen (hamok) in third place, one minute behind.

This means that Vandermeulen will probably win the overall competition, since both Herremans and Oeyen are unsure if they will be able to participate on day 3 because of other activities. Currently, Herremans is in the lead, just in front of Oeyen, with Vandermeulen at about three minutes.

Pasquasy wins day 1

 

Fabien Pasquasy (HOC) was the fastest runner in the BEL Ranking event in Geel Bel, during day 1 of the Flanders 3 days. Not very satisfied with his performance in this middle distance competition (map), with two one minute mistakes, he still had a 3 minute lead to follow-up Jeroen Hoekx (hamok). In third place, we find Desmond Franssen (Trol), 5 minutes behind on Pasquasy.

Pasquasy, however, is not a contestant for the overall victory in the three days event, as he only participated in this BEL Ranking event. This puts Thomas van der Kleij  (hamok) in third place in the overall standings after day one.

6 days of France fourth place Greet Oeyen (hamok) won the women's class. She was 36 seconds faster than her clubmate Sofie Herremans. 4 minutes behind, Severine Vandermeulen (CO Liège) took the third place.

Preview Flanders 3 days

Next weekend (15, 16 and 17 august) the Flanders 3 days will take place in the north of Belgium. The first day will take place on the map "Geel Bel", where the national championship middle distance 2006 took place. During that championship, the winner in H21E Pieter Hendrickx run 4'55min/km. So the terrain will consist of a forrest with very good runnability and visibility and some techincal sandareas and detailed relief (see mapsample).

The next 2 days will be organised on the maps Houterenberg and Rodenberg. These maps haven't been used for years, but are now uptodate because of Ukrainian mapmakers.

In the H21E class (28 participators), not all Belgian toprunners are present (top5 of Bel-ranking is absent). But we still can expect a close fight between Jeroen Hoekx, Thomas van der Kleij and Tomas Hendrickx. Jeroen hasn't run many competitions this summervacation, but probably he will be in good shape. His teammate Thomas van der Kleij had a more busy orienteering-summervacation. He participated at the O-ringen 5days in Sweden in H21long2 and afterwards he run in the strongest class at Nordvestgaloppen in Norway. Specially during that last competition he performed very strong. He became 6th in H21AL, only 3 minutes slower than Holger Hott and 6 minutes faster than Olav Lundanes (former JWOC winner).

The 3th favourit Tomas Hendrickx proved already in the past that he doesn't need many competitions to be in a good shape. Other outsiders for the victory are: Nicolas Sillien (44th at the 6days in Averyron), Serge Fedatsenka (participated at JWOC), Jan Oeyen (some good results in regional events), Yves Briers (won the regional event in Koersel and here he gained his new nickname: "De Cobra"), Jeroen van der Kleij (run Oringen) and some other runners.

In the D21E class, we find back 21 participators. The big favourit in this class will be Greet Oeyen. She became 4th during the 6 jours de l'Aveyron in the D21E class. During the Flanders 3 days, her opponents are: Sofie Herremans (who performed strong at oringen), Severine Vandermeulen (also present in France: 15th) and maybe someone who will surprise us.

6 Jours de l'Aveyron - Belgen

Verschillende Belgen (waaronder Omega met een grote delegatie) trokken dit jaar richting het Zuiden van Frankrijk voor deelname aan deze wedstrijd.

De terreinen beloofden een technische uitdaging te worden voor de deelnemers zoals onderstaand kaartfragment vanop de website aantoont. Ook meervoudig wereldkampioen Thierry GUEORGIOU , tevens peter van deze wedstrijd, verkondigde dat deze terreinen behoren tot de moeilijkste ter wereld.






Ondertussen zijn reeds 5 van de 6 dagen achter de rug en morgen wordt om de eindoverwinning gestreden. In tegenstelling tot de afgelopen 5 daagse in Zweden, verloopt de laatste dag niet via een jachtstart, maar de starttijden worden via een ander (voorlopig niet ontcijferd) systeem toegekend.

Dit keer zijn het vooral de Belgische vrouwen die voor mooie resultaten zorgen.
Hieronder een overzichtje van alle lopers die momenteel een top 5 plaats innemen, daarnaast zijn er ook nog een pak Belgen die momenteel een plaatje in de top 10 bezetten.



De meest opmerkelijke prestatie komt toch wel van WOC-ganger Greet Oeyen (foto WorldofO) die in het sterke deelnemersveld een zeer puike prestatie weet neer te zetten.
Geen echte verrassing missschien aangezien deze technische kaarten.





Ook de Omega- meisjes doen het ook uitstekend in de jeugdreeksen.

Sofie Herremans in "Dag Allemaal"

Tussen Marianne van Thuis die "geen reclame voor hondenbrokken" maakt en Piet Huysentruyt die zich eindelijk geapprecieerd voelt had de "Dag Allemaal" van 15 juli nog plaats voor een artikel over de familie Gevaert. En wie zien we daar? Jawel, hamok en Slok ster Sofie Herremans.

Na dit onverwachte sluikreclamesucces voor het oriëntatielopen is de fanclub in actie geschoten en ondertussen is de rode jurk, met extra hamok logo, al te verkrijgen in Barts sportshop.

Nu rest natuurlijk nog de vraag hoe wij deze foto gevonden hebben, want de ingewijde weet dat ons wereldbeeld enkel en alleen gevormd wordt door het maandelijks lezen van "De Knijptang" en de o-ringenverslagen op De Laatste Post. Terwijl de serieuze oriënteur op dit ogenblik in de Aveyron aan het lopen is, waren wij daar enkele weken terug en bij het tonen van de vakantiefoto's bij de grootouders lag de sappige verzameling roddels te wachten om gelezen te worden door mensen die de foto's al 100 keer gezien hadden, met dit komkommertijdartikel als gevolg.
